Kauri Store: A 360° Approach to Sustainable Living

Can you share the story of how Kauri Store started?
Kauri Store was born out of a desire to create a retails store where sustainable fashion could meet luxury in a seamless and accessible way. The idea began when we noticed a gap in the market—while sustainability in fashion was on the rise, there was a lack of high-quality, sustainable options that also reflected the elegance and craftsmanship associated with luxury. With this in mind, we set out to curate a collection of ethical, eco-conscious brands that emphasize both style and sustainability. Our name, "Kauri," was inspired by the Kauri tree, which represents resilience and longevity—values that resonate with the heart of our brand. Since our founding, we've worked to empower conscious consumers to make impactful choices without sacrificing quality or design.
How does Kauri Store integrate sustainability into its core business model?
Sustainability is woven into every aspect of Kauri Store’s business model. From our carefully curated selection of brands that prioritize ethical sourcing, eco-friendly materials, and fair labor practices, to our dedication to reducing our own environmental footprint, we focus on long-term, responsible practices. We prioritize circular fashion by encouraging customers to invest in timeless pieces, offer repair services, and work with brands that incorporate recyclable or biodegradable packaging. Additionally, we are committed to transparency—providing our customers with information on the sourcing and production of each item, empowering them to make informed decisions.
What criteria do you prioritize when selecting sustainable brands for collaboration?
When selecting brands to collaborate with, we consider several key factors:
- Sourcing and materials: We only select brands that use sustainable, organic, or upcycled materials. Transparency in sourcing is essential, ensuring that all materials are ethically harvested or repurposed.
- Fair labor practices: We seek out brands that prioritize fair wages, safe working conditions, and support for artisans.
- Environmental impact: Brands must demonstrate a clear commitment to reducing their carbon footprint, minimizing waste, and using eco-friendly production processes.
- Longevity and design: We believe sustainability is about more than just materials; it's about creating pieces that are timeless, versatile, and built to last, ensuring that they remain in the consumer’s wardrobe for years.
- Innovation and forward-thinking: We are drawn to brands that are pushing the boundaries of sustainability through innovation, whether it's in materials, production methods, or their approach to packaging and logistics.
Kauri Store is featured in renowned luxury hotels in northeast Italy. How has this helped promote sustainable fashion to luxury travelers, and what unique role do you think these partnerships play in combining luxury with sustainability?
Our partnerships with luxury hotels in northeast Italy have been instrumental in introducing sustainable fashion to a discerning audience who might not typically engage with eco-conscious brands. These hotels, which cater to travelers seeking refined experiences, provide an ideal platform for Kauri Store to showcase how luxury and sustainability can coexist. By placing our curated selection of sustainable fashion within such prestigious locations, we’re able to reach a global audience and elevate the conversation around sustainable fashion in the luxury space. These partnerships play a unique role in bridging the gap between luxury and responsibility, allowing travelers to experience firsthand the beauty of consciously crafted clothing and accessories. It’s about creating a seamless blend of aesthetics, quality, and ethics, which resonates with travelers who value sustainability but still expect the highest level of craftsmanship and design.
What do you envision for the future of sustainable fashion in Italy, particularly in terms of consumer adoption and market trends?
Italy has always been at the heart of luxury fashion, and we believe that the future of sustainable fashion in Italy will be defined by a shift in consumer expectations and greater industry-wide adoption. As more consumers seek to align their purchasing choices with their values, we expect sustainable fashion to become less of a niche market and more of a mainstream movement. This includes a rise in demand for transparency, ethical sourcing, and timeless design. Italy, with its rich tradition of craftsmanship, will likely see a resurgence in artisanal practices that focus on quality and longevity rather than fast trends. We also foresee more Italian designers and fashion houses incorporating sustainability into their core strategies, making it a key component of their identity. Overall, sustainable fashion will be seen not as an alternative but as the future of the industry—where style, quality, and responsibility can go hand in hand.
