We chatted with BIBS, a premium Danish children's brand. Get to know how was BIBS' brand built, how do they consider sustainability and what do they take into account in production.

What is the story behind the brand?

BIBS is a premium Danish children's brand established in 1978, offering a big selection of baby essentials available in a selection of beautiful, carefully crafted designs made of the best and safest materials, in a wide range of colours to suit every taste. All products are made with the highest regard for materials, functionality, safety and the environment.

Our journey started with the iconic ‘Colour’ pacifier, which has since been joined by many new pacifier designs and product categories.

The rapidly expanding BIBS collection, includes the brand's iconic pacifiers, as well as innovative mealtime essentials, practical accessories, products to sleep in and cuddle with and playful additions. More collections will be added soon.

We are an international company with a broad representation of nationalities and genders. Our 100+ employees are working from all over the world, why our workplace culture is defined by collaboration, trust, integrity, engagement, and strong competencies.

How is it possible to add a little bit of serenity to the everyday life of parents? How does BIBS support that?

Yes, it is! We know that parenthood comes with a lot of love and joy. But here at BIBS we understand that the reality also includes chaos, isolation, and red eyes. And we want to support exactly this reality.

We really want to make parenthood a tiny bit easier by making functional, high quality, and aesthetic products.

BIBS’ ambition is to "reduce the CO2 emission in our production" – how do you achieve that and why is it important to you?

All collections are meticulously designed at BIBS headquarters in Denmark, and all pacifiers are produced at our factory in Denmark where the latest technology and energy-saving equipment is used. Depending on materials, BIBS choose the supplier with the highest expertise and knowledge of the product who comply with BIBS high quality and environmental standards.

We are on a journey to become fully supplied by renewable energy in our own and external production facilities. We have started our journey and in 2020 we teamed up with the Danish company Ørsted to optimize our production and move towards a greener production line. Now all the electricity that we use to produce our products, made in our production facilities in Denmark, is covered with certificates from renewable energy production from European wind turbines. This is one of our investments in cleaner production. We are very aware that these certificates are not the solution to ending greenhouse gas emissions. But at BIBS, we want to take an active part in green growth, and with this agreement, we are committed to supporting sustainable development. Read more from here.

"At BIBS we are highly committed to minimising our impact on the environment. We want to offer ethically produced and sustainable products that help protect our planet. Our brands' promise is to become greener in everything we do. Our children will inherit the Earth and we want to actively secure it for generations to come." - Henrik Larsen, BIBS' CEO.

What are the most important factors you consider when selecting materials for kids’ products?

We are committed to offer sustainably produced products that are original, safe, and aesthetic. We source materials, produce, test, and certify products according to the highest standards on the market to ensure products are of the best quality for our customers.

We are very careful in our material choices, and always pick high-quality materials that are durable to ensure a long product lifetime for our products. For safety reasons, our pacifiers need to be replaced every 4-6 weeks. Therefore, we pay extra attention to the fact that our other products stand the test of time and can be used for years without the need for replacement.

All plastic products and components are produced in Denmark in our own production facilities.

We are constantly exploring new materials and treatments that are safe, durable, and environmentally friendly.

At BIBS we are extremely proud to have joined the circle of GOTS certified companies. The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is an international organic label for clothing and textiles that aims to ensure sustainability throughout the product’s life cycle. As a GOTS-certified company, BIBS offers fully organic cotton products that comply with the strictest environmental and social requirements at every step of the supply chain. Right from processing, production, packaging, labelling, trade, and shipping. In addition, there are both environmental requirements and requirements for social responsibility.
