Natali Karppinen

Can you introduce yourself with a few sentences?

My name is Natali - yep, no e or y ;-). I'm an entrepreneur, photographer, dreamer, gypsy at heart and mom of the most amazing 8 year old girl Lara.

Any recommendation for Helsinki "musts"?

As a true bon vivant, somebody who's always restless and also as a part of my job, I'm usually very well informed of what are the hottest places in my city or some of my favourite travel destinations such as London and New York. In Helsinki, I would definitely recommend you to check out: Yume restaurant, stay at grandiose Kamp hotel, visit Natural history museum and Helsinki Art Museum, shop at LuxBag or MyOMy stores, buy a book at Academic book shop or grab a pastry and coffee at famous Moomin Cafe at Stockmann department store.

A good piece of advice that you have kept in mind?

Always trust your gut, it's never wrong.

What inspires you?

Everything and anything! I see beauty and inspiration in the simplest, oddest or most typical places and sources, so you never know what will be the next thing that will trigger my inspiration flow.

What kids related brands do you appreciate?

I love good quality brands, I'm always up for having quality over quantity of anything from clothes to school supplies etc. I love Madara and Lavera cosmetics for my daughter's hygiene and skin care, Bambi orthopedic shoes from Croatia and Molo clothes.

As a parent what is your favourite indulgence?

Hahah, simple things such as peaceful morning on my own, having my first cup of tea, having uninterrupted time to meet friends for a dinner or go to the gym. The small things in life!

What place do you want to visit and why?

Cuba!! Ever since I was 13, I wanted to visit it! Everything about Cuba, it's past, present, culture, people, the way of living. I mean everything interests me so much.

Do you have a tradition in your family that you are particularly fond of?

Not really... I have always been the one to break the rules and routines, so I have raised my daughter that way that she always wants to see, try and experience something new. I had many traditions that I was forced to be part of in my childhood, so I guess that made me do quite the opposite when I had my own family.

What annoys you?

Stupidity and ignorance.

What do you wish people would do more of?

Forgiving, accepting and loving each other.

How did parenthood change your life?

It changed me forever in ways that I am not yet completely aware of, but definitely for the better. I have found myself, so to speak, through being Lara's mom. She thought me so much and made me realize some of my hidden super powers I didn't know I had.

How do you manage to balance your life between family, work and everything else?

Plain and simple, I don't! I always daydream about finding that perfect balance and having everything run smoothly etc. but that did not yet, and most possibly never will happen in my life. Some days I have tons of clothes waiting to be washed, rooms to be tidied up, friends to call back and so on. But on the other hand, I have managed to do my work (all 3 of them) and help out Lara with her homework. You win some, you loose some.
