Jonna Järvenpää

Can you introduce yourself with a few sentences?

My name is Jonna, originally from Finland, but I've been living in London for the past 10 years. I started a fine jewellery company a few years ago, called Addalit, and most importantly I’m a mummy for a 2-year-old boy.

How do you disconnect in a digital world?

With how we are as a society, the jury is out if we can truly disconnect. I’ve tried, however, to introduce a new approach to my digital life by checking emails and messages just once an hour, or even less, when I’m spending time with my son. It’s more effective to reply to numerous emails at once rather than have the phone to hand constantly

What is a fun way of spending time together with the family?

We don’t have the luxury to spend much time as a whole family during the week due to busy schedules, so we try to dedicate weekends for things that we can all enjoy together. Luckily, London is full of fun activities for all tastes whether they be cultural, culinary or just plain fun. We go to the zoo and museums, go for a walk in Hyde Park, try new restaurants... We also travel a lot, which is when we really get to spend quality time with each other.

Is there a useful product, service or website that makes your life with kids easier?

Google. What did parents do before the Internet? Although it’s important to stick to the credible websites for information because if you're simply seeking justification, the Internet will definitely provide that.

What kids related brand do you appreciate?

We travel a lot and the Babyzen Yoyo has been a life changer. It's one of the few prams which can fold into the overhead storage.

How did parenthood change your life?

I used to live in a moment, be spontaneous and not plan my life too rigidly. With a child this all has changed. Now it’s more about forward planning and condensed schedules, but it’s all worth it.
We still try to be active and do things spontaneously, for as much as the schedule permits.

What is the best thing about being a parent?

There is nothing better than waking up in the morning, even if extremely tired, to a child’s beautiful smile. I had never felt this overwhelming feel of love before having a child.

How do you manage to balance your life between family, work and everything?

A very disciplined approach to my diary. Despite working with some very discerning clients, I can plan my work schedule to an extent, so I have a chance to spend time at home, but even when working, I make sure to book time out to spend with my family and son.
